Knit Together Knit Together is a project in Zimbabwe. The aim of Knit Together is to provide material support and offer hope to women caring for children affected by HIV/AIDS. This project is a partnership effort with the JF Kapnek Charitable Trust. Zimbabwe has been devastated by HIV/AIDS, with almost 1 million children orphaned. Extended family and community-based orphan care is clearly the widest and best means of response. The Trust has built 7 preschools and trained local women as preschool teachers. These schools provide a stimulating environment for children as well as a rest for over-burdened relatives and neighbors caring for orphans. Knit Together aims to improve the preschool childrens' play by providing basic knitting and sewing supplies to the teachers. These women make much-needed toys and fabric books for the preschools. With an average attendance of 60-80 children at each school the demand is great. Knit Together marries local labor with resources from you for the common good and is managed by the preschool teacher trainer who oversees the distribution of materials.
